Personal Quotes
[on her experience in Shart: The Challenge (2004)]: "It is a nice experience working within a southern set-up. Good directors is what I always look out for when I sign a movie. The story of this film is in itself not very great but the way he projected it was superb. Jagannathji has also written the script of this triangular love story."

[on her character in the film Wajjah...A Reason to Kill]: "I'm just playing a sensitive girl, a very strong character, who has family relations - parents and a person that she loves and wants to spend her life with. There can be no comparisons between this character and any other that I've done before."

[response to rumor that she slapped director of Desh Drohi]: "I am really amazed as to how all these silly rumours about me slapping an assistant director on the sets started. Do I look the kind who would physically abuse anyone? Wah yaar! Why don't these guys write the scripts for the films? They will do really well!

[on the action stunts in Desh Drohi (2008)] I am high on action these days and really loving all those dhoom-dhadaam scenes and bike racing stunts. Although I hurt myself a couple of times, but I still carried on doggedly with those complicated fight sequences. I think people will like me in this new avatar.

[opinion of Amir Khan] Aamir is an actor with a purpose, he thinks about the masses and what strikes a right chord with them. That is the reason that his films almost always carry a social message, and at the same time are very entertaining too. In this sense, he is way ahead of others.

[on her experience in Aseema: Beyond Boundaries (2007)] Aseema is based on an award-winning novel by Shailaja Kumari Aparajita Mahanti. It's a woman centric film, which is very inspiring. It's an opportunity I'm getting to contribute to the cause of womanhood through the medium of cinema. I'm sure Aseema will touch everyone's hearts, as the film's content is very strong.

[on baring her body for a film] I will only do roles that I can identify with and which I can watch in front of my parents. The look has to be true to the role.

[opinion on item numbers] Dancing is my passion but I wouldn't do an item number. I would like to be true to my culture.

[response to her flops] You can't predict a film's future. For me, each film is equally important and I'm as involved with one movie as with the other. Cinema is a director's medium and I can say that there has been nothing lacking from my side. I have grown as an actor and I don't regret doing any film.

[on why her career is/was at a standstill] I don't think anything went wrong! Ups and downs are a part of every actor's life. I'm very proud to be a part of this profession and fortunate to play some strong characters on screen.

Filmography

Muskaan, Shart: The Challenge, Wajahh, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., Armaan, Gangaajal, Pehli Nazaar Ka Pehla Pyaar, Lagaan, Hu Tu Tu, Hum Apke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.

From Zee TV to Oscars, Gracy has become a household name in a very short time. Better known as ‘Dinki’ of the popular serial ‘Amaanat’, she played the lovable village lass alongside Aamir Khan in the Oscar nominated ‘Lagaan’. She won the viewers with her rustic looks and a neat performance as Gauri in the celebrated film.

Her performance in the film reveals that this television actress is the most endearing new face to have hit Indian screens in recent years. Her bright eyes and feminine charm capture Gauri's personality (Lagaan) to the core, exuding a mix of innocence and playfulness.

Born and brought up in Delhi, in a traditional Punjabi family; Gracy's passion for acting and dance goes back to her school days. She started taking Bharat Natyam lessons during her vacations, while studying at Manav Sthali School. Finishing school in the mid-nineties, she joined a dance troupe called "Planets" and started performing on stage, simultaneously pursuing her graduation in Arts. Around this time, she also traveled to Bombay for a few modeling assignments, ad films and dance shows.

In 1997 came the big break, when she tested successfully for the TV serial ‘Amanat’. Television became Gracy's real school for acting, where she developed gradually as an actress. At the same time, she fetched small roles in films like ‘Hu Tu Tu’ and ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain’, which went unnoticed.

The success of the serial gave Gracy the right platform. Ashutosh Gowariker who was auditioning for his film ‘Lagaan’ spotted her. Gracy’s soft and endearing personality went in her favor and she became the part of the film that created history. She won the Zee Cine Best Debutant-Female award in 2001.

In 2003 marked the release of three of her films ‘Armaan’, ‘Gangajaal’ and ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’. MBMBBS was another super hit film. Gracy turns out to be the actress with best ratio of hits to her credit. She has rightfully earned the epithet of a lucky mascot of industry. However, her latest film ‘Muskaan’ opposite Aftab Shivadasani, however, bombed at the box office.

The motto of life of Gracy is to lead a life and carry her career with dignity and grace. And that is the reason for her refusal to many offers that came her way that required body exposure.

Gracy Singh's simple demeanor never gives away the fact that underneath it is hidden a warm, impassioned actress and a graceful dancer. From a demure personality to an energetic performer, Gracy has been taking Bharat Natyam lessons under guru Deepak Mazumdar. She strongly believes that dance compliments acting. Both are expressions of a similar art form. After six months of regular training in dance, she completed her Arangetram (debut performance in Bharat Natyam) on 25th March 2001.

Gracy, a levelheaded individual is often misunderstood to be a snob. Rather she has a reserved and introvert nature. A home bird, Gracy is an extremely laid back and lazy person. Chocolates are her weakness so she finds it difficult to follow her strict diet regime. ‘Horlicks’ she says is the secret behind this cute baby face. ‘Conversations with God’ by Neale Donald Walsch remains her all time favorite book.

Nobody would have given the petite Delhi girl a chance at all to establish herself as a lead actress in an industry where glamour dolls rule the roost. The simple yet graceful Gracy has proved her detractors wrong.

Let’s see if she can recreate the magic of Lagaan in her forthcoming films, which includes Hum Bhi Khush Tum Bhi Khush with Anil Kapoor and another film opposite, Tusshar Kapoor and Amrita Arora, which is a remake of Telugu, hit Badri.
